What is Montessori?

Dr. Maria Montessori was the first woman doctor in Italy. In addition to her medical work, she developed a special method of teaching very young children.
The Montessori method differs from traditional preschools and kindergartens in the following ways:

$ There are specialized materials for specific concepts. $ Academics are part of early childhood learning. $ Phonics is used to teach reading. $ Manipulative math materials are used. $ There is individual instruction. $ The children are free to choose their own work.
